9. Decoupage Sheet Music Baubles

9

Bring a touch of vintage romance and musical harmony to your tree with decoupage sheet music baubles. This project is perfect for music-loving families or those who appreciate a classic, antique aesthetic. By utilizing old sheet music—perhaps of favorite holiday carols like “Silent Night” or “Jingle Bells”—you create a visually interesting ornament that tells a story. This technique can also be done with pages from old books, vintage maps, or colorful holiday wrapping paper.

You will need inexpensive paper mache or plastic ball ornaments, Mod Podge (or school glue mixed with a little water), a paintbrush, and old sheet music. Tear the sheet music into small, irregular strips or squares about one inch wide. Tearing the paper, rather than cutting it, creates softer edges that blend together more seamlessly on the curved surface of the ornament. Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge directly to a small section of the ornament using your paintbrush.

Press a paper strip onto the wet glue, smoothing out any air bubbles or wrinkles with your fingers or the brush. Continue applying glue and overlapping paper strips until the entire surface of the ornament is covered. Once covered, apply a final, sealing coat of Mod Podge over the entire ornament. While the glue is still wet, you can sprinkle a tiny bit of fine gold or silver glitter over the surface for a subtle holiday shimmer. Once dry, replace the hanging cap and tie a luxurious velvet ribbon to the top.
