2. Rustic Twig and Cinnamon Stars

2

For those who love a cozy, cabin-inspired aesthetic, rustic twig and cinnamon stars are the perfect addition to the Christmas tree. This project encourages your family to head outdoors for a crisp winter nature walk to gather supplies. Searching for the perfect twigs in the backyard or a local park is a wonderful way to connect with nature before settling indoors for an afternoon of crafting. Additionally, the inclusion of cinnamon sticks ensures your tree smells absolutely divine.

Start by gathering straight twigs of similar thickness and cutting them into equal lengths, about four to five inches long. You will need five twigs or five cinnamon sticks to create a classic five-pointed star. If you are using twigs, you can leave the bark on for a rugged, textured look, or gently scrape it off for a smoother finish. Arrange the five pieces into a star shape, overlapping the ends. Use a hot glue gun to secure the intersecting points together. For younger crafters, a low-temperature glue gun or craft glue works well, though it requires a bit more drying time.

Once the basic star shape is secure, wrap festive jute twine, colorful embroidery floss, or thin plaid ribbon around the joints. This not only reinforces the structure but also adds a charming, handmade touch. You can embellish the center of the stars with a small sprig of faux evergreen, a tiny pinecone, or a red wooden bead to mimic holly berries. Attach a loop of twine to the top point of the star, and your natural, aromatic ornament is ready to bring rustic elegance to your holiday tree.
